Arnoux & Fils ‘Genus’ Cotes du Rhone Villages
The philosophy behind the Arnoux & Fils ‘Genus’ is a simple one. Minimal intervention winemaking and production in line with Mother Nature. Fully certified as being both Organic and Biodynamic, meaning that in the vineyard no pesticides or chemicals are used just natural fertilisers, hand-pruning and harvesting, a back to the roots approach (excuse the pun!). All of the grapes are harvested at night according to the moon phases. Everything is as Nature intended. Once in the winery, fermentation and malolactic conversion are both allowed to happen spontaneously.
The Genus Cotes du Rhone Villages is a blend of grapes sourced from multiple approved appellation sites throughout the Rhone region. Some well known areas will include the Plan de Dieu, Sablet and Vaucluse communes, amongst others. Cotes du Rhone Villages is similar in style to that of Chateauneuf-du-Pape, having similar constraints on yields and rules, such as a minimum natural alcohol level of 12.5% ABV, for both appellations. The wine is often lighter than Chateauneuf and more approachable in youth.
Comprising 70% Grenache, 25% Syrah and 5% Mourvedre and matured for 6 months in old French oak, the Genus has a refined power. Wonderful fresh fruit aromas leading to juicy, bight blackberry and red cherry flavours. A subtle toastiness rounds off this velvety smooth wine beautifully.
