Albert Bichot ‘Secret de Famille’ Bourgogne Côte d’Or Chardonnay
This great value wine is no ordinary “generic” Bourgogne. Although Bichot own vineyards from across the entire Burgundy region, from Chablis to Beaujolais, this wine really showcases the house style perfectly.
The wine is produced from only vines in the Côte d’Or, from the outer edges of some of the most prestigious and well known sites such as St Aubin, Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet. So, this is not “just” a Bourgogne Blanc. As usual, with all of the Bichot wines, yields are kept low to maintain quality and the berries are treated with the same love and care as the Grand Vins. No expense is spared in the winery to bring you an “everyday drinking” wine, maturing for up to 12 months in a combination of new and old French oak barrels.
This is a wine of stunning quality which makes it truly outstanding value. If you are unfamiliar with Burgundy, this is a great introduction to the finesse and elegance the region is known for. One might say it is a “Gateway” to the great wines of the Côte d’Or. For those of you familiar enough with white Burgundy, if you closed your eyes it could very easily be mistaken for a young Meursault!
It is a medium-bodied wine that feels lighter and fresher due to a beautifully judged backbone of acidity running through the palate and providing a key structural element to the wine. There is also a touch of creaminess to complement the fruit, and a hint of smoky and nutty characteristics that come through on the finish.
Chardonnay can be thought of as a blank canvas of a grape variety that shows the skills of the winemaker for better or for worse. We are delighted to say that this is a very impressive feat of wine-making in a region where the best wines can be ruinously expensive.see less
