Drumshanbo Gunpowder Gin
In deepest rural Ireland, on the edge of a lake in Drumshanbo, County Leitrim, is the home of The Shed Distillery and PJ Rigney. PJ created The Shed Distillery with its medieval copper pot stills, and began a quest to fuse oriental botanicals with the local Irish ones to create the Gunpowder Irish Gin.
The following 8 botanicals are slowly distilled in medieval copper pot stills to create a full and flavoursome classical base: local Meadowsweet, Caraway seed and Cardamom from India, Star Anise from China, Orris Root from Morocco, Juniper from Macedonia, Coriander seed from Romania and Angelica Root from Germany. Next, PJ adds a further four botanicals via vapour infusion. This is where the Gunpowder tea is the star of the show, supported by Chinese lemon, oriental grapefruit and Kaffir lime.
Gunpowder is a green tea that is bold and bright with a slight spicy freshness, indicative of this flavourful gin.
