Gunderloch Als Wars ein Stuck von mir Riesling
This is an experimental wine produced by the Hasselbach family at Weingut Gunderloch. The name translates as “As though it were a piece of me” – it is part of a project to restore the family’s reputation as one of the finest producers of Rhine Riesling grown on Permian red slate soils.
This particular wine is harvested from a part of the vineyard that has been converted to biodynamics. The hand-harvested grapes also spend some time macerating on skins – which is unusual – and fine lees, with some of them being fermented in clay amphorae.
The result is an aromatic and racy wine that expresses the varietal aromas and flavours of Riesling magnificently. Classy stuff produced ‘naturally’.
