Terrazas de los Andes Malbec
Terrazas de los Andes is centred around Argentine philosophies with a little sprinkling of French panache. Collaboration with French technicians has propelled Terrazes de los Andes to produce some of the finest high-altitude wines on the planet.
Vineyards in the Mendoza province are located alongside a 150-mile strip of the Andes foothills, planted on terraces varying between 800 and 1,250 meters (2,600 and 3,900 feet) above sea level. It is thanks to the fresh air of the mountains that oenologists can harness the hot dry climate of the region to produce the most special of wines. Rainfall is scarce, averaging just 200 mm per year. This is 2.5 times less than the Napa Valley (USA) and 5 times less than the Bordeaux wine region (France). This low humidity helps keep the vines healthy by nature, practically organic, with very limited disease treatment to help produce a pure expression of the Malbec varietal.
The grapes for this wine are sourced from vineyards from an altitude of 1,070 meters In the Uco Valley’s ‘Las Compuertas’ & ‘Paraje Altamira’ sites. The ages of the vines are between 20-80 years old.
After fermentation the wine spends 12-14 months ageing in French oak barrels with a combination of 1st to 4th use oak.
An intense floral and fruity nose, reminiscent of violets, plum and ripe black cherries. There is a revealing underlying toasty and spicy character with subtle black pepper and chocolate nuances. The palate shows a sweet and juicy mouthfeel with delicate tannin, an abundance of black fruits with plenty of elegance and finesse.see less
